Battlefields Ride 2010

A new reason for getting out on your bike, while supporting a really worthwhile cause (and I can vouch for that personally!).

What is it?

The aim of this motorcycle ride is simply for you to visit some of the Battlefields of Britain within a calendar year (i.e. from January to December). The battlefields may be visited at any time of the year and in any order. You do not need to visit more than one on any particular day or trip. You do need to visit a specific place at each battlefield, and provide proof of your visit by photographing your motorcycle at that place.

How do you get involved?

A road book containing details and a map of the specified locations is available by sending a cheque for at least £15 made out to ‘WNAA’ (Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance) to the address below. You have two choices: EITHER send an A4 SAE (large 1st) with your cheque to receive a copy of the road book containing details and maps of all the locations to be visited, and a placard with your personal number on it which you must include in each photograph OR send your email address with your cheque - you will receive your personal number by email and will then be able to download the roadbook and blank placard from the forms page here and transfer the roadbook information straight into a mapping or GPS program, or print it and the placard off yourself; you will then be able to add your personal number to the blank placard. To use the download option you must have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer (you can install by clicking on here).
In either case please include details of your usual motorcycle in your application.

What do you get for it?

On completion of the ride by visiting  the Battlefields, return your list of parks visited with dates, and photographs to gain a Battlefields Ride certificate. It will be possible to gain a Bronze, Silver or Gold certificate - depending on whether you are claiming for having visited 5, 10 or all 15 Battlefields. Your name and achievement will also be recorded on this website. Plus, of course, knowing you are supporting a service which has helped so many fellow motorcyclists!

Some riders may wish to combine a number of parks in one ride to gain one of the Iron Butt Association’s distance awards (for further details of their rides see www.ironbutt.org).

All money raised goes directly to the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, click on the logo below to visit their website ans see some of the brilliant work they do.
Many thanks for all of you who have taken the time to read this, and especially to those who feel able to take part. I look forward to meeting some of you and reading your stories of your rides - please send any in and I will publish them on this site.
